Shane Alan Wood, 17, of Shipshewana, died unexpectedly at 5:54 am, on Friday, May 27 at his residence. He was born on November 3, 2004, in Goshen, to Billy Shane Wood and Jacqueline (Richard) Ponsler. Surviving are his father Billy (Tara Caldwell) Wood of Shipshewana; mother, Jacqueline (Darrell) Ponsler of Pierceton; siblings, Brooke Renae Wood, Megan Grace Wood, Avery Nicole Wood, Luke Andrew Ponsler, Lilliea Rose Ponsler, Carly Job Ponsler, Rachael Gonzalez, Rebecca Gonzalez, Shawn Caldwell, Brennan Caldwell; grandparents, Karen Murphy of Plymouth, Randy and Deborah Northrup of Howe. He was preceded in death by two grandfathers, John “Frankie” Frank Wood Jr., Carl Andrew Richard. Shane had just finished his junior year at Westview High School and was on track to graduate in 2023. He was a quiet but hard worker in school and earned top grades in his Advanced Manufacturing class. He won the Student of the Year Award in the 8th grade, which was voted on by the Westview Junior High staff. Visitation will be from noon - 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 4 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Chris Lipford. Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery, Ligonier. Memorials may be given to the funeral home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
