Obituary

Malcolm D. Prough, 86, of West Lafayette, formerly of Shipshewana, died peacefully on Thursday, May 5 at Cumberland Pointe, West Lafayette. He was born on November 18, 1935, in Sturgis, MI, to Raymond C. and Elva (Yoder) Prough. On November 10, 1962, in Shipshewana, he married Sharron Ann Wetzel, she survives. He lived most of his life in Shipshewana, until he and his wife Sharron moved to West Lafayette in 2013. Malcolm served in the U.S. Army from 1959 - 1963 and retired from his agricultural business in 2013. He was a former member of the Lions Club, Moose Lodge and Shipshewana United Methodist Church. Malcolm also served on the board of the LaGrange County Parks and Recreation for 37 years. Survivors in addition to his wife are two daughters, Cynthia (Paul) Shires of Flowery Branch, GA, Heather (Steve) Edwards of West Lafayette; son, Brendan Prough; foster son, James (Ellyn) Book of Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Andrew & Joshua Shires, Addison, Lauren, and Gabe Edwards; along with his army family who have remained close and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm noon - 1:30 pm on Saturday, May 14 followed by a 1:30 pm funeral service at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. Masks will be required for services. Services will be conducted by Pastor James Book. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana, with military honors provided by LaGrange American Legion Post 215. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the LaGrange County Parks Department.
