James Robert "Bob" Breniser, 97, of Middlebury, went to be with his Lord and Savior with his daughters by his side at 5:48 pm on Thursday, September 30, at his residence. He was born on June 26, 1924, in Middlebury, to Lawrence and Anna (Eash) Breniser. On November 4, 1950 in Goshen he married Bernis J. "Bernie" Waugaman, she proceeded him in death on May 2, 2020. Surviving are two daughters, Susie (Kevin) Gipson of Middlebury, Laurie (Kevin) Schmidt of Middlebury; three grandchildren, Andrew (Laura) Schmidt, Matthew (Alyssa) Gipson, Zachary (Katlyn) Gipson; two great grandchildren, Hallie Gipson and Hayden Gipson. He was preceded in death by his wife; son, Steve Breniser; infant brother, Donald Harold Breniser; sister, Carolyn Hostetler. Bob worked for 24 years as an independent agent delivering fuel for Standard Oil.  He voluntarily enlisted in the US Navy serving during WW II, most of the time serving in New Guinea. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, gardening and cooking. He was a member of the American Legion and the First United Methodist Church, Middlebury. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday October 4, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. Funeral services will follow visitation beginning at 1:00 pm on Monday also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury where military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 210, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to American Legion or First United Methodist Church.
