Eva Fern Kurtz, 68, of Middlebury, passed away at 1:10 pm on Tuesday, June 14, while surrounded by her family, at her residence. She had been in declining health for over a year while battling cancer. She was born on March 6, 1954 in Elgin, IL, to Levi H. and Fannie (Chupp) Bontrager. On May 24, 1986 in Goshen, she married Tom E. Kurtz, he survives. Survivors in addition to her husband are two daughters, Kelly (Lynn) Bowen of Middlebury, Lindsey (Fiancé Michael Weaver) Kurtz of Middlebury; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Selena; mother, Fannie (Glenn) Nisly of Middlebury; sister, Dorothy (Lee) Bontrager of Middlebury; two brothers, Ken (Liz) Bontrager of Goshen, Steve Bontrager of Middlebury. She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister, Joan Bontrager. Eva worked as a massage therapist for 32 years and was also an Amish taxi driver. She loved being with her family and friends, making people laugh, crafting, reading, and cooking. She loved others well, had a generous heart, and a passionate love for Jesus. She was an active member at the First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 5:00 pm on Sunday, June 19, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street Middlebury. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 10:00 am funeral service on Monday, June 20, at First Mennonite Church, Middlebury. Services will be conducted by Pastor Phil Yoder and Pastor Tim Eash. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury. Memorials may be given to Water for Life.
