Donald Lee Whitaker, 71, of Goshen passed away at 9:49 am on Wednesday, July 28, at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on July 7, 1950 in Michigan City to Junior Archer and Phyllis (Scheidler) Thews. On May 23, 1992 in Goshen he married Kathleen Johnson, she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are five children, Angela Luttrell of Leesburg, Melissa Robinson of Lafayette, Aaron (Laura) Read of New Paris, Tori Read of New Paris, Annette Wallace of Etna Green; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Don was one of 18 siblings and was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence Thews; and two sons-in-law, Terry Luttrell and Greg Wallace. Don had been a truck driver for most of his life working for different area companies and doing long-haul trucking. He had most recently worked in the maintenance department for Goshen Dairy. He was a decorated Army veteran who served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast who enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Family and friends will gather for one hour of visitation prior to the 11:00 am celebration of life service on Saturday, August 7, at Goshen Christian Church, 2133 Berkey Ave., Goshen. Services will be conducted by John Gorball. Military honors will be performed after the service and memorials may be given to Fallen Patriots.
