Biruta M. Everts, 80, of LaGrange, formerly a long-time resident of Shipshewana, died at 4:30 pm, on Thursday, June 9 at Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange. She was born on June 13, 1941, in Riga, Latvia, to Evalds and Welhelmina (Kranklis) Berzins. Surviving are their four children, Cynthia (David) Higgins of Shipshewana, Gary (Anita) Everts, Ron (Julie) Everts, both of Punta Gorda, FL, and Susan (Bud) Dawson of Leesburg; 21 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; brother, Aivars Berzins of CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Dzridra Kalass. Biruta worked as a crafter making her own products to sell and worked in gift shops in Shipshewana. She attended Living Faith Fellowship in Elkhart for many years. Nothing was more important to Biruta then God and her family. She was unwavering in her faith, even in times of hardship. When you were at her home, "making memories" with the grandkids was the agenda for the day. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 14 and 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday, June 15 prior to the 11:00 am funeral service at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorials may be given to American Association for Cancer Research. Online condolences may be offered at millerstewartfuneralhome.com.
